As the chlorine & bromine do its job killing the bacteria it can form other compounds called combined chlorine (chloramines) or unwanted by-products from the bromination process. These compounds have no killing power and are, in fact, a nuisance. They need to be removed by periodically shock dosing the pool with Caw-Chem Spa Non-Chlorine Shock.
